The farm and its geographical location offer guests the possibility to do various activities both within the farm itself and in the surrounding area.
In the farm you can walk among the oak and chestnut forests or through the orchards where olive and fruit trees are cultivated.
Wild animals like wild boars, foxes, squirrels and badgers can often be sighted, while hawks fly high above in the sky.
You can accompany the farm owners to gather wild herbs and vegetables that are the base of the recipe of "torta d’erbi" (herbs pie), a traditional dish of Lunigiana. Cooking courses are also arranged upon request.
Mountain bikes are available for rental; you can explore the wild hills rich with flora that surround the farm or visit small medieval villages nearby.
If you wish to discover the area on horseback, there are riding stables in the vicinity.
There are also many hiking possibilities: the Lunigiana Trekking, the wonderful trails in the Apuan Alps, in the Tuscan Emilian National Park or in the Cinque Terre National Park.
The "Via Francigena", the ancient pilgrimage route connecting Canterbury and Rome, is also found in Lunigiana and has been recently restored.
Lunigiana has a considerable cultural heritage, even if it is unkown to most people because it’s outside the classical tourist routes: they say that there are at least 100 castles in this valley (8 in Mulazzo) most of them restored and open to visitors. Lunigiana is proud of its literary tradition that is well represented by the “Premio Bancarella” in Pontremoli and by the “Fiera del Libro” in Montereggio.
Many village festivals, mainly held in summertime, gladden the visitors with their offerings of traditional local dishes.
Il Cargedo is also an ideal location for daily trips to Cinque Terre and the La Spezia Gulf (Lerici, Montemarcello, Tellaro, Porto Venere), that can be reached in less then 1 hour by car. Pisa and Lucca, very famous towns in Tuscany, can also be reached in 1 hour.
The "Il Cargedo" owners will be happy to supply the information you need to discover this beautiful land.
